Upcoming Site Visits and Accreditation Requests

The following schools have submitted requests to the CAAM-HP for accreditation:

Dental Schools

  • The University of the West Indies School of Dentistry
Located on the St. Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies, the school has begun the accreditation process and the site visit will take place October 4-8, 2010.

Medical Schools

  • Vanguard University School of Medicine
Proposal for the establishment of a new school on the island of Montserrat has been evaluated and CAAM-HP has requested the submission of a more comprehensive proposal.
  • American University of Antigua
Located on the island of Antigua, CAAM-HP is still awaiting progress in the preparation of the institutional self study and education database.
  • Xavier University School of Medicine, Bonaire
    Accreditation documents are being reviewed.
  • All American Institute of Medical Sciences (AAIMS)
The CAAM-HP determined that initial provisional accreditation should be granted to AAIMS provided that remodelling of the buildings is completed within the next two years following which another visit will be paid to determine the school’s readiness to accept its charter class.
  • Global University Schools of Medicine and Public Health (GU-MED)
The CAAM-HP after careful examination of the reports determined that it could not grant initial provisional accreditation to the programme as major questions remain unanswered. The CAAM-HP therefore suggested that the proposal be rewritten to include response to the issues raised.
  • Charleston University School of Medicine
CAAM-HP awaits response to the issues identified.
  • American University of Barbados
CAAM-HP awaits response to the issues identified.

ADVISORY
The Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) has been made aware of claims that its Standards are being used by other accreditation bodies to evaluate medical education programmes located in their countries.

CAAM-HP wishes to make it clear that such accreditation exercises CANNOT be interpreted to mean that the CAAM-HP has accredited or approved these programmes. The programmes assessed and accredited by the CAAM-HP, with its independent international mechanisms, are listed on CAAM-HP’s web site.

Any further enquiries or uncertainty about the validity of accreditation exercises claiming the approval of CAAM-HP should be directed to the CAAM-HP Secretariat.
